How to Identify Your Roller Blind Mechanism

Intro

Choosing the right replacement mechanism starts with correctly identifying what you already have. Getting this wrong can lead to poor fit and wasted time.

Step 1: Check the Tube Size

32mm external diameter

The most important factor is the external tube diameter:

  • 28mm (most common for DIY blinds)

  • 32mm (most common in made to measure blinds)

Step 2: Identify the Control Type

  • Chain-operated (sidewinder)

  • Spring-loaded

👉 Most modern blinds use chain mechanisms.

Step 3: Look at the Shape

Different brands use slightly different tubes:

  • Round ends

  • Round ends with 1 or 2 slots (see picture above)

👉 Match visually where possible.

Step 4: Check Brackets

25mm & 28mm mechanisms often have different bracket types, 32mm tend to be standard. If

in doubt buy pack containing mechanism, pin end and brackets.
